Clipper Logistics Teams Up With London First To Provide Best Practice Guidance

Clipper Logistics Group has become a member of London First, an influential business membership organisation with the mission to make London the best city in the world in which to do business.

Clipper was invited to join London First as a result of its industry-leading work on freight consolidation centres across the UK for key retail locations including Meadowhall. Clipper is also currently working with The Crown Estate to develop a consolidation centre to service Regent Street retailers in the capital.

London First works alongside national and London government to improve the capital’s transport system through better operational management and an investment programme to increase capacity and reliability. The Clipper team will make a major contribution to the freight consolidation project as part of London’s new transport strategy and provide best practice advice on this area.  Fellow members of London First include BAA, Network Rail and GE.

Tony Mannix, managing director at Clipper, said: “Freight consolidation is a key element of London First’s transport strategy that is aimed at reducing congestion, improving the pedestrian experience in central zones like Regent Street, and meeting EU environmental directives as well as benefiting retailers. To be invited to join such an important working party and play a significant role in the development of this long-term plan for the capital is a great achievement for us. On a wider scale, we will continue to promote the benefits of consolidation centres for the future.”

Tim Hockney, executive director for transport at London First, commented:

“London is often blighted by slow, unreliable, stop-start road journeys. London First is working with the business community to champion a range of measures to tackle congestion and the resulting poor air quality. Improving the efficiency of delivery and servicing in central London, without restricting economic prosperity, is a key element of our approach. I am delighted that we will now be able to call on Clipper’s expertise in freight consolidation to improve conditions for the benefit of business and Londoners alike.”
