Leading retail and high-value logistics provider Clipper Logistics Group has announced a contract renewal with The Crown Estate for its innovative consolidated delivery solution for Regent Street in central London after the successful completion of its original two-year pilot contract.
The contract extension for several years will see the service operate well beyond the London Olympics and into 2013.the future.
The initiative, which consolidates all store deliveries to one easily accessible point outside the congestion charge zone, was the first of its kind in London, and since the retail solution was launched, has benefited a large number of Regent Street’s retailers.
Liberty, Ferrari, Banana Republic, Anthropologie and Gap are just some of the retailers making use of the consolidated delivery solution. The operation reduces traffic congestion, improves air quality, allows for deliveries to be made to better suit the retailer rather than the carrier, and equally beneficial, offers full pre-retail services to make best use of store staff. Deliveries are consolidated with those of other retailers from around Regent Street and released from Clipper’s warehouse to arrive at the stores at a pre-arranged time.
As well as the reduction in congestion, the initiative Clipper and The Crown Estate initiative, works alongside other measures to address traffic movements around Regent Street and contributes towards achieving the cCentral London air quality improvement targets. The associated reduction in vehicle noise creates a better quality shopping environment.
Tony Mannix, managing director at Clipper, said: “We are delighted that our partnership with The Crown Estate has been extended. The concept is simple but the benefits to our retailer customers, their customers and the environment are tremendous”.
“The scheme demonstrates Clipper’s agility and logistics ability by working to combat congestion and environmental impact in one of the world’s busiest retail areas, and we look forward to developing further consolidated delivery solutions.”
“We recognise that driving sales, whilst meeting sustainability targets, remain key challenges for retailers. As part of our on-going commitment to improving the Regent Street environment, Clipper has ordered electric delivery capabilities which will be in operation in 2011.”
Peter Bourne, The Crown Estates Partnership, commented: “We are pleased to be extending the Clipper contract by a further three years. Over the last two years, Clipper has worked in partnership with Crown Estate, to deliver an environmentally friendly consolidation solution for Regent Street, which meets the needs of the retailers, Transport for London and the public, and the solution has proved extremely successful. By addressing our responsibility to our retailers, their businesses and to shoppers, Clipper has provided a solution that is wide-ranging, yet targeted enough to provide tangible benefits to all parties, and we believe that this is a long-term solution that really delivers and we look forward to continuing a a continued successful partnership.”
