Announced at a city-centre ceremony at the beginning of December, the awards acknowledge the success, growth and potential of Yorkshire’s best businesses and their leading figures.  Steve was chosen as the winner in this category for his outstanding contribution to business.  Since he founded Clipper in 1992, the business has become a leading provider of value-added, solutions-driven logistics services, working with many of the UK’s leading retailers, and employing over 3,000 full-time employees.

Steve also holds several property interests, and has significantly supported various charities; his work has had a huge impact on the regional economy, and national and international logistics sectors.  Speaking about the award, he said: “I am delighted to be recognised as a business leader by such esteemed awards.  This recognition is a great achievement, both personally and professionally, and I am incredibly proud to receive the award.  It’s fantastic to be part of a list of such successful and prominent Yorkshire businessmen, and I’m honoured to be acknowledged amongst the region’s best.”

Sponsored by children’s charity Variety, which aims to improve the lives of young people by providing support and equipment to children across the country, the Variety Business Awards have been running for almost three decades, with the past two years seeing Endless LLP’s Gary Wilson and Dart Group’s Philip Meeson win the prestigious Business Leader award.  The esteemed accolade places Steve amongst the big names of business leadership in Yorkshire, a well-deserved recognition of his continued hard work, investment and commitment in every aspect of what he does.

Clipper Wins Award for Technology Innovation

Unknown-1

Clipper is pleased to announce success in the technology category of the Newark Business Awards, which took place on Monday 7th November. The leading retail logistics specialist was a finalist in the ‘Best Use of Technology to Improve Business Performance’ category at a black-tie grand final on Monday night.

The win comes thanks to the development of a cutting-edge automated system called the Auto Boxer. In-keeping with the business’s agile and effective approach to the changing dynamics of retail, the Auto Boxer is designed to improve the efficiency of the e-fulfilment process. It comprises of a system of specially constructed and configured conveyors and machinery, allowing for the more efficient packing and processing of online orders.

In operation at Clipper’s multi-user Ollerton site, the bespoke automation system enhances the processing of stock, achieving supply chain efficiencies and cost savings for client, Asda. The system meets the demands of Asda’s Click and Collect offering; it enhances the service while reducing cost and complexity, minimising physical labour and eliminating human error.

Senior Operations Director, Carl Moore, said “We are delighted to have been recognised for our hard work in developing this best-in-class solution. As a technology-focused business, Clipper is well-equipped to deal with the constantly evolving and increasingly demanding world of multichannel retail. The Auto-Boxer is just one example of how we are using our expertise and innovation to improve the efficiency of the retail supply-chain for our clients.”

Since initiation, the system has greatly improved the supply chain solution, with customer service and satisfaction running at extremely impressive levels.

Morrisons Teams Up With Clipper To Launch Nutmeg Clothing

Nutmeg – the first own-brand clothing range for Morrisons supermarkets has arrived in store. The debut collection features vibrant children’s clothing for ages 0-12 and a range of adult essentials.

The new family clothing brand has been created in response to shopper demand for a range that delivers value-for-money attire without compromising on quality. Initial reactions to the brand has been extremely positive, with a large proportion of Morrisons customers expressing the desire for Nutmeg to be ranged in their local supermarket.

Retail logistics specialists, Clipper, successfully delivered the launch last month to stores across the UK. Clipper was awarded the clothing logistics contract early this year and adds this activity to the existing high value solution it already provides the retailer.

The Nutmeg DC operation is being serviced from one of Clipper’s sites in Leeds, with the Clipper transport solution providing deliveries to Morrisons stores nationwide. The contract covers all services from inbound receipt, QC, flat/hanging storage, pick&pack, cross dock, transport and the returns solutions.

Nigel Hinds, Operations Director, Clipper said: “I’m delighted that Morrisons chose Clipper to support its exciting new venture. Our breadth of experience in the clothing sector is well known and we have been able to create both a tailored solution for Nutmeg as well as new jobs in Yorkshire.”

“As this is a new business opportunity, Morrisons needed comfort of working with a logistics provider that can hit the ground running. Our extensive experience of initiating new contracts in a short time frame, and our history of handling some of the UK’s biggest brands, meant that we were the perfect partner.”

Graeme Douglas, Non-Food Supply Director, Morrisons said: “Clipper is well respected in the retail industry and was an obvious choice for this contract. The team has worked tirelessly to ensure that we hit our tight timelines and have yet again proved they are agile and very capable. I am looking forward to growing the Nutmeg operation and seeing our relationship with Clipper flourish”.
