The Customer

Adnams produce beers and spirits from grain to glass in their coastal home. The Suffolk-based award-winning brewer, distiller and retailer has remained a values-driven brand, and supports its own 44 pubs, inns and hotels in addition to 13 retail stores and 1,700 suppliers. The business also works closely with more than 4,000 pubs nationally and exports to over 22 countries around the world.

The Challenge

Adnams has been brewing beer on the same site in Suffolk for over 670 years. The location of the site however, has led to restrictions in carrier choice, and as a result has impacted the daily cut-off order time for customers. Cut-off times for daily collections were midday, and parcel rates were high, reflecting the remote location of the pick-up point. This impacted Adnams customer offers and in turn, sales. Clipper’s track record and reputation for innovative and industry-leading solutions meant that when Adnams were looking to expand their offering, Clipper was an obvious choice.

The Solution

Clipper worked closely with Adnams to understand and address the challenges their business model presented, in addition to growth aspirations of the business. Clipper offered Adnams a sophisticated storage and supply chain solution to facilitate their needs, enabling them to address current operational challenges and provide foundations for future growth. Clipper’s integrated solution based in Rotherham, allows Adnams to extend their operational window, offering customers a later cut-off order time for next day deliver. The solution also offers Adnams increased growth opportunities and the ability to operate under bond as volume sales increase.

The Result

Operating from Clipper’s Rotherham facility, the partnership has offered Adnams the ability to tender the business out to a number of national couriers and improve their e-commerce offerings in terms of cut-off times for next day delivery. The solution has also provided Adnams with additional storage facilities to alleviate the space constraints that they had previously been experiencing with their existing in-house solution.
