Clipper becomes an ECO star in Edinburgh

Clipper, the leading provider of retail and high-value logistics, has recently been awarded ‘4 Star status’ membership for the Eco Stars Fleet Recognition Scheme in Edinburgh.

Originally launched in South Yorkshire in January 2009, as part of a drive to improve the quality of air across the region, the scheme recognises fleet operators who are using lower polluting vehicles and effective fuel management. Clipper was the first organisation to join the South Yorkshire scheme and became the first multi-regional member when it signed up to the Mid-Devon scheme last year.

Ann Connolly, manager of the ECO Stars fleet recognition scheme in Edinburgh, said: “We are pleased to give recognition to Clipper in Edinburgh, particularly as they were pioneers in joining the ECO Stars schemes in both South Yorkshire and Mid-Devon and for setting a great example of best practice in fleet operations for others to follow.”

Clipper’s operations director, Nigel Hinds, commented: “Clipper is proud to be part of the ECO Stars initiative, which has provided us with a fantastic opportunity to refine our environmental business practice. This reward is further recognition of our on-going commitment to become a more environmentally-aware and efficient operator, and we look forward to many more organisations joining the scheme in the future.”

Clipper has a strong track record of green initiatives and has recently won the bronze award in the Best Green Service Innovation category at the International Green Awards 2011 for its groundbreaking consolidation centre solutions for Regent Street, Meadowhall and Tyne and Wear – which offer practical and environmental solutions to shopping and town centre congestion and reduce the retailers’ carbon footprints thanks to the shared-user service.
