CLIPPER AWARDED HIGHEST RATING FOR ENVIRONMENTAL SCHEME
15 Aug 2011 15:42

Yorkshire-based Clipper Logistics Group, the leading provider of retail and high-value logistics, has recently been awarded ‘5 Star status’ membership for the Eco Stars Fleet Recognition Scheme in Mid Devon.

Originally launched in South Yorkshire in January 2009, as part of a drive to improve the quality of air across the region, the scheme recognises fleet operators who are using lower polluting vehicles and effective fuel management. Clipper Logistics Group was the first organisation to join the South Yorkshire scheme and became the first multi-regional member when it signed up to the Mid Devon scheme in January this year.

Following a drive by Clipper to increase its environmental efficiencies and to lower its carbon emissions even further, it recently underwent a phase of fleet replacement, in which new, cleaner and greener vehicles replaced older, less environmentally friendly vehicles. The introduction of the new vehicles has resulted in Clipper progressing from ‘4 star rating’ to the highest accreditation, ‘5 star status’ under the Mid Devon scheme.

Chris Douglas, manager of the ECO stars fleet recognition scheme in Mid-Devon said: “Clipper has clearly demonstrated its commitment to running more environmentally efficient operations and this has resulted in it being rewarded. We are particularly pleased to give recognition to Clipper who were pioneers in joining the ECO Stars schemes in both South Yorkshire and Mid-Devon and for setting a great example of best practice in fleet operations for other fleets to follow, they fully deserve to be a 5 star operator.”

Clipper’s managing director, Tony Mannix, commented: “Clipper is delighted to have been awarded ‘5 star status’ by the Mid Devon scheme, and is proud to be part of the ECO Stars initiative, which has provided us with a fantastic opportunity to refine our environmental business practice. This reward is further recognition of our on-going commitment to become a more environmentally aware and efficient operator, and we look forward to many more organisations joining the scheme in the future."

Clipper has a strong track record of green operations, and has developed groundbreaking Consolidation Centre solutions for Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield, Crown Estate, serving London’s Regent St and is now launching a similar scheme to service Newcastle city centre, Eldon Square and Metro Centre.  Clipper’s solutions significantly streamline the delivery process and reduce the retailers’ carbon footprints thanks to the shared-user service.
