Clipper Logistics Group
Clipper has welcomed the results of a new Government study that firmly backs the future of consolidation centres in the UK.
The Freight Consolidation Centre Study by Transport & Travel Research, commissioned by the Department of Transport, identified five operational high street/ shopping centre retail consolidation centres in the UK, two of which, are successfully operated by Clipper Logistics, one in Sheffield, which serves Meadowhall Shopping Centre and the other in Brimsdown in Enfield, for The Crown Estate, which serves a large proportion of Regent St retailers.
The study concluded that there were a number of benefits to the use of consolidation centres including cutting the final mile delivery cost, enhancing the deployment of store workers, pushing down costs for companies through supply chain efficiencies and increasing delivery windows and finally, that the use of consolidations centres could maximize retail space and deployment of store staff with up to 20 per cent space expansion.
Clipper managing director, Tony Mannix welcomed the news saying: “The study has been very conclusive in highlighting the benefits and the potential growth of consolidation centres in the UK, and the report will no doubt provide useful guidance to retailers who are considering consolidation centres as part of their delivery strategies.”
“Clipper Logistics was quick to recognise the benefits of consolidation centres and adapted its services early on, to provide retailers with innovative consolidated delivery solutions. The results have been particularly successful, and our Brimsdown site, which serves Regent St has seen a number of additional retailers making use of this revolutionary solution, as the benefits become more and more apparent.”
“Clipper believes that consolidation centres offer a long-term solution that can really deliver. There is no doubt there will be a significant rise in demand, as retailers increasingly look for ways to drive sales, whilst at the same time meeting their sustainability targets, and Clipper is proud to remain at forefront of this innovation.”
